Report by Tojo 10th April 2011

After the disappointment of not getting out last Wednesday shore fishing due to the sw, wind I was hoping that the 10th of April would be a good start to the year and the man upstairs finally shone down on us for a change.

the man upstairs shining down lol.

anyway arrived at Holyhead at 6.10am for the 7am sail ,and it was 13degrees at 6.35am ,cracking .. a good day ahead I hoped.
so down to the boat and the usual meet and greet was in order ..and after the early morn brew and we set of to feather a few fish out from the back of the breaky to pass half hr away ... 1st drop and I lost my gear. right upto the shock leader.. not happy... so just threw a rig on and fished it as it was.. managed a codling of around 1.5lb and a poor cod.. due to flapping over losing the rig I forgot to take pics of these 2 fish....tut tut...
and so it was lines up and round to south stack.

for some feathering for hopefully herring (which ive never had )and wasn't disappointed either... after ten mins I managed a few herring and once we had enough for fresh bait and a few pollock we headed for the deeps.

on arriving at the deeps we all dropped down and it wasn't long before fish were coming out. from doggies to huss to tope. for sum lads anyway...lol

2nd tope of the year of my way fell to chris ??think it was chris anyway ... the first was 17lb and this one went to 18lb +
[image]

mean while I was killing myself bringing up cols and geths leads for an hour.. and was having one of them days .... but the last half hr saw me bring up my 1st huss of the year ... I think it beat my pb of 9.5lb but was so happy I just put it back after the photos..

then rebaited and back down for my catch of the day with a new pb for a spurdog.
last time I had one of these was in the Orkneys. how happy I was to hear geth say 15lb 3 oz...

after this there was still huss and a few more spurs making the way on board.. but I was worn out lol and decided I was happy with my fish and sat the last tens mins out.

lines up gents I heard and back to south stack before the last stint on the muds.. a few fish came up here from herring to ballens, pollock ,coalies, dogs.

I managed a ballen I lost another rig...

so just got set up for the muds to see if i could end the day with a sneaky ray ..but it wasn't tobe... even so there was again a few species showing from pollock, coalies, dabs, dogs, ...heres a few of them I caught.

a double shot of dogs

another double shot a dog and dab

and then this past by.. massive ..

total catch for the day .. poorcod, codling, huss, spurdog, ballan wrasse, 8 dogs,1 dab..
and a great sun tan,, on top of that fed and watered by geth , a top day out with a great bunch of chaps... nice to meet you guys from stoke on trent.. hope you got back safe.. and to the local lad col.

only thing spoiled the day was the traffic coming home. horrendous from the 55 to the 56 . nearly to Manchester.

but you can't have everything I was once told lol.
cheers geth for a good day and will see ya soon.
cheers tojo
