RIGS
whiting1101.JPG (28061 bytes) Whiting tend to be found over most grounds fishing from Holyhead, from Langdon ridge, to Holyhead Deep and around to Trearddur Bay. Smaller fish are around most year round.

During winter months though some good specimens move in, with some fish touching the 3lb mark.

Rigs can be plain and simple for whiting. Basic scratch rigs similar to the 2 up 1 down version will catch plenty of good whiting for you. A 3 hook paternoster or small feather/hokeye will also work well.

BAITS
Most baits will work but predominantly mackerel, ragworm, squid
METHOD
Whiting can be found both on and just off the sea bed. Scratch rigs baited with small strips of mackerel or small pieces of ragworm are a firm favourite around Holyhead. Leads can be left on the bottom or lifted slowly up and down every now and then.
