RIGS
Gurnards tend to be found over most grounds fishing from Holyhead, from Langdon ridge and around to Trearddur Bay.

During summer months though some good specimens tubs move in, with some red gurnards topping the 1lb mark.

Rigs can be plain and simple for gurnards. Basic scratch rigs similar to the 2 up 1 down version will catch plenty of good fish for you. A 3 hook paternoster or small feather/hokeye will also work well.

BAITS
Most baits will work but predominantly mackerel, ragworm, squid
METHOD
Gurnards can be found both on and just off the sea bed. Scratch rigs baited with small strips of mackerel or small pieces of ragworm are a firm favourite around Holyhead. Leads can be left on the bottom or lifted slowly up and down every now and then to entice the bite.
