31st October 2006 Not been many updates for a while, apologies for this! It's been a mixture of the weather not playing ball and also plenty of work to do surrounding the Anglesey Boat Angling Festival that GO Angling organises. Further information and results from the 2006 Anglesey Festival can be found here www.boatfestival.co.uk .

Fishing has been patchy of late with still fairly mild weather for the time of year. Fishing consisting of mixed bags including dogfish, whiting, pollack, coalies, codling, huss, congers, spurs and a few mini specie.

Finally the whiting have moved into Holyhead bay in great numbers. Some of the whiting touching the 2lb mark have made their way to the dinner table!

Huss are plentiful with some recent specimens reaching 14lb.

Congers are biting well both offshore and inshore. 2 lads from Holyhead hooked into a 50lb eel a few weeks back from one of the inshore wrecks, with some rough ground a few miles off giving eels consistently to 20lb.

Offshore on the neap tides and we're seeing some nice Spurdogs being caught and released! With the best specimen this month going 15lb 7oz.

17th September 2006 10 places left for the Anglesey Festival - more info
11th September 2006 Well what more can be said about the weather over the past 4 / 5 weeks other than poo!! Strong north or northwest winds followed by southerly gales. Fishing has suffered as well. On the days we have been able to sail, large swells have restricted our movement and dirtied water seen a slow day afloat picking away.  Fish of late have included dogs, whiting, pollack, wrasse, codling, gurnards, dabs, the small spotted ray, pouting, poor cod, a couple small smoothies, a few congers and tope and some very good huss action.  Nothing to re-write the record books though.

Some settled weather now and hopefully the fish will move back in on the feed.

Funniest thing happened though last Wednesday night. Waiting in the darkness for the congers to feed, the joyful banter had died down a little as we were aware of the increasing northerly wind pushing us away from the wreck. My Way regular Paul Coulthurst was concentrating on his rod tip, eagerly looking for a bite, when all of a sudden he jumped, 2 foot back and 2 foot high, whilst screaming like a banshee and swearing like a trooper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our friendly neighbourhood seal had popped out of the dark sea, into the dark, still air, right under Paul's rod tip with the loudest of roars/snorts you can imagine from a hungry seal.

I've never laughed so much in my life, as did all on the boat. It will take a long time for Paul to live that one down!

21st August 2006 Weather causing problems the last couple weeks. Windy one day, leaving us with a very limpy sea and then flat calm the next. Fishing when being able to travel to our intended marks has seen really good catches of tope and huss offshore with the odd bigger fish Holyhead bay. Inshore plenty of variety with dogfish, wrasse, pollack, grey and red gurnard, rays, conger, huss, codling, the odd black bream and many more making for a great day afloat when weather allows.

24th July 2006 Really good catches of tope at present with pack fish offshore and a few bigger fish already moving into the bay. Inshore plenty of variety with dogfish, wrasse, pollack, grey and red gurnard, rays, huss, codling, some black bream and many more making for a great day afloat.

09th July 2006 All good things come to an end eventually, and this run of excellent weather that has seen us sail daily, gave way today to a 39mph southerly gale. This called for a night out, a nice Prawn Balti followed by a few jars with the lads who had the weekend booked on My Way, we managed the Saturday but Sunday was to be too much, so pub it was.

A good night was had by all, I had the sore head to prove it. However the stories of Alans big tope and how it got away are starting to  .......yawn!!

Back to the fishing - plenty of variety around. This week alone has given tope to 30lb, smoothie to 14lb, huss to 12lb, blonde ray at 18lb and only the one small spotted ray of around 3lb. Plenty of other species around including dogfish, wrasse, pollack, coalies, mackerel, codling plus many more. The odd spurdog still showing when offshore.

05th July 2006 Apologies to you all for the lack of updates of late. Fishing has been hectic of late with plenty of excellent sport to be had. Please click back at a later date or join the mailing list for new catch photos and news updates.

13th June 2006 Updates include Availability, Individuals & Catches

13th June 2006 Fishing continuing to improve daily with plenty of species around, smoothies, huss and tope the largest at the moment. This month the larger tope will be appearing in great numbers as they follow the mackerel in.

Yesterday a 20 minute drift yielded around 150 mackerel, I know I ended up gutting them for the lads to take home for the pan!!

Bill Bushell came up trumps on Sunday with a nice 6lb codling, plucked from a an inshore wreck, whilst others landed pouting and the odd small pollack to 2lb.

Wrasse are getting bigger with some nice ballans to 4lb, and the odd cuckoo coming up.

07th June 2006 Not many updates for a while now as we've been setting sail most days. The weather has been great of late, high pressure giving us some flat seas and glorious sunshine.

The algae bloom is upon us but the fishing has been steady. The tope and spurs have been slow this last set of neap tides, but the inshore work has been very good. Plenty of wrasse, huss, dogs, pollack, coalies etc and some very good smoothound. The best smoothie falling to Erwin Douglass from the St Helens SAC - a starry of 21lb 9oz, another St Helens member, Bob, also managed a 16lb'er.

21st May 2006 Over the past 2-3 weeks we have been trying in earnest to hook into some smoothound, due in our waters early to mid May. Despite prime crab, no smoothies were playing. Fishing however was fairly good with, dogs, huss, ray, whiting, codling, pollack, wrasse, coalies and mackerel, herring, spurdog, tope to name but a few.

After  thinking the winds had eased off now, following a good 3 week spell that has seen us set sail daily, the past weekend blew up big style with winds up to force 8 pounding our shores. However as the winds eased and moved more into the east we were able to set sail in search of.................smoothound.

At last they have arrived, we landed 6 fish in all. 1 small fish and the others ranging between 9lb 2oz and 12lb 8oz. A few more big smoothies were lost when they just snapped the lines as the darted off.

A few photos here, and some more smoothound information here

09th May 2006 Sorry I've not updated much of late, fishing has definitely picked up and the more settled weather has seen us set sail almost daily.

Plenty of fish around most marks now. As normal the usual suspects of dogs, huss, whiting etc are found most places, additionally South Stack showing good numbers of mackerel and small pollack. Trearddur Bay alive with wrasse, small pollack and coalies, and some decent codling to 5lb.

Offshore Holyhead Deeps has been producing spurs and tope, not great numbers of either, but hopefully a good sign to an exciting summer ahead. Best tope are going to 18lb, with a cracking spurdog of 15lb caught last weekend by John Pouter.

22nd April 2006 Fishing picking up daily now - plenty of spurs and the first of the small tope already appearing - catches.

21st April 2006 Fishing has picked up very nicely over the last month or so. Plenty of fish around to keep everyone happy. Each day over the past week has averaged over 8 species, including dogs, whiting, dabs, huss, pouting, pollack, coalfish, wrasse, poor cod, spotted ray and thornback ray and a few small strap congers.

Nothing to re-write the record books, but a definite good sign of improved fishing.

A key to a successful day afloat, especially when trying for many species is to vary rigs and bait. On a couple trips of late, the only bait has been mackerel and the only rig deployed a 6/0 running ledger. Sadly fishing is not this simple, this set up will not get you your pollack, coaly, wrasse etc on a regular basis - yes you may get a one off but not consistently.

When embarking on a trip, it always pays to have a varied selection of good quality baits in your cool box. Ragworm, lugworm, squid, sandeel etc, along with the oily mackerel and herring. Fishing on My Way feel free to call Malcolm at ABC in Beaumaris on 01248 810009 for a good selection of baits, or when booking your day afloat with us ask for bait to be arranged for you prior to the trip.

26th March 2006 The winds have been up and down all week, but over the last few days have swung from the north to a more South/Southwest direction. This has certainly helped to warm everywhere up and push some fish in.

Plenty of whiting and dabs around this weekend, with a few dogs and huss. Some of the better dabs were touching on 1lb in weight. From the huss only one was of any size unfortunately it spat the hook as the net approached!

13th March 2006 Strong winds around topping at Force 8, saw us set sail only on Saturday this weekend. Not a brilliant day afloat either, fishing was very slow. Whiting and dogs and not too many of them!!

Roll on some more settled weather in a week or two (I hope)

20th February 2006 On August 6th 2005, Nottinghamshire angler Anthony Meli caught and landed a tope of 79lb aboard My Way. After a quick photo and a measure for length and girth, the tope was returned to the sea, none too worse for it's ordeal in meeting Anthony.

However, because of recent changes in the WFSA record list and there being no longer any requirement for tope to be weighed ashore, Anthony has recently been rewarded with a welsh record listing for boat caught tope.

.

Well done Anthony.

20th February 2006 Quite a few fish around this week. Again nothing too special but fairly consistent winter angling with dogfish and whiting making the bulk of the catches, A few decent huss also caught along with some pollack and also herring. Quite a few codling knocking about on Saturday but nothing big. The biggest only a couple lb.

Best sight this weekend was early Sunday morning, when moving inshore from the Mussel beds, something jumped clean out of the water around 30yards off the bow of My Way. Dolphins!! a small pod of 4 or 5 dolphins, I can only think they had followed the herring into the bay - was a very nice sight for this early in the year.

31st January 2006 Updates to Tackle Talk and Availability

30th January 2006 What a difference a week can make? For the good or for the worse - sadly the latter. The weather and fishing this weekend was..........unpleasant. I think that is the best way to describe things without saying $&*%.

Forecast showed nice light winds wherever you looked, albeit NE, however the winds appeared to top 25mph. This threw up a very choppy sea, and despite moves all around the coast sheltering away - we failed to locate many fish. What came aboard was only whiting and the odd dog.

This is fishing - but boy was it hard work. At least spring is fast approaching?

24th January 2006 Fair few fish around this week. Again nothing to set the world alight but fairly consistent winter sport with dogfish and whiting making the bulk of the catches, A few decent huss also caught along with some pollack and codling to 2.5lb, and a few small congers.

23rd January 2006 Added to the site a page of Frequently Asked Questions

09th January 2006 Nice settled weather over the weekend, though with a very light and bitterly cold easterly chill. Plenty of fish around, but nothing too special - bag loads of whiting, pouting and poor cod, with the odd doggie and huss and a few nice conger to end each day with. Managed a 24lb'er myself.....

......and a nice 1lb 8oz 3 bearded rockling was also caught.

01st January 2006 Happy New Year
