31st December 2005 Fishing has been fairly slow this past month. Weather wise we've managed to get out on half of our booked trips, but been faced with lumnpy seas and slow fishing.

Plenty of whiting around and the odd huss, but pleasing for some very fewe dogfish.

Anchoring on the wrecks we have seen qwuite a few congers, averaging between 15 and 20lb, a few bigger and a few smaller.

14th November 2005 Settled weather over the weekend saw My Way set sail in search of some sport. Saturday had a fairly lumpy sea still throwing around so we kept in close, sheltering around Rocky Coast and near the breakwater.  Thankfully this didn't effect the fishing too much and we managed quite a few fish, dogs, whiting, pouting and poor cod and around 20 double figure bull huss. Moved onto the wreck to try for conger, however the damn wind picked up and really swelled the sea, making it unsafe to stay so we came in a couple hours early.

Sunday the weather was far more settled. Sailing at 12 noon, we were determined to give the conger wrecks a few hours into darkness. The day started off in traditional winter style - dogs, whiting, pouting, poor cod at anchor not much on the drift though today only a few ballan wrasse - no pollack.

As darkness fell we moved over to the wrecks and anchored up for the last three hours in darkness for the eels. We managed to land 10 eels in the end, 8 of which were in the 12 - 20lb mark. A big one lost on top of the water and a few monsters lost to the wreck itself. Poor  Chris Hamblin hooked into a big fish twice, sadly this fish got the better of him on both occasions. Very good fishing and an enjoyable day. With the forecast looking good for next weekend hopefully a bit more of the same. Check availability here.

Daniel Maple, on his first ever conger outing hooked into 2 double figure fish, the largest of which touching 15lb. Showing dad Will how to do it.

With the later sails we always enjoy a good lunch and then an evening snack!!

02nd November 2005 With the wind pounding a force 7-10 for the last 8 days, My Way has been tied up unable to go anywhere. Finally yesterday we managed a day afloat. Not fantastic, I think most of the fish where still sheltering from the rough seas. Leaving the marina we still had big swells to contend with on our way to some sheltered water. On anchoring, we hooked into dogs and whiting and very little else, the odd poor cod and small pollack also made an appearance.

Managed to land 2 congers after dark, both double figures the larges being 14lb 5oz for Dave Titheridge. Lost a few more, and Dave Roberts lost a fairly big one, that just stripped line off the reel and eventually snapped him off - 80lb main line!!!!!!!

17th October 2005 Having recently been away for 2 weeks with the WFSA Boat team, we have only been out for a couple days in October. With 32' tides fishing was going to be slow.

Thankfully not too slow - Sunday we sailed for 8hrs and managed wuite a few fish - dogs, whiting, pouting etc followed by quite a few huss and then all topped off with a very nice 41lb tope.

Monday was a little slower - plenty of fish around in the morning but nothing special, similar to the Sunday without the tope. Our first autumn excursion onto a conger wreck delivered 1 small eel of around 10lb. Hopefully this is a good sign for later on.

04th September 2005 Fishing was very good during the last set of neap tides. Holyhead bay produced a fair few tope for us ranging from 10lb to a nice 46lb fish. Even managed to hook into and land a couple myself.

6 miles off the wrecks have been throwing up a few pollack, whilst drifting over waiting for the tide to ease for us to anchor for spurs and tope. Nothing spectacular - fish ranging from a couple pound to around 6lb. Plenty of spurs found at anchor and some nice huss too, didn't find any tope here though.

The bigger tides have crept up on us over the last few days, and slowed the fishing down a touch. There have been plenty of fish around to keep us entertained but nothing special - dogs, huss, whiting, codling pouting etc and the odd strap conger.

Nights are drawing in now so attention will soon be turning to the nearby wrecks and some great sport with the conger. Can't wait!!

06th August 2005 Nottinghamshire angler Anthony Meli, landed a potential Welsh record tope today. After a hard 45minute fight, a gigantic fish broke the surface of the water. One bent landing net later, Anthony was having a photo taken with a superb 79lb tope.

After a few quick photographs the fish was released and swam away to see another day.

02nd August 2005 Back onto the small tides and some good sport has been found once again with the tope fishing in Holyhead Deep. biggest fish this time only 25lb, but plenty of them into double figures keeping the anglers happy and myself busy with the net.

A few good fish have been lost these last few days through incorrectly set drags. When fishing for bigger species you really do need to have a light drag setting, this allows the fish to dart off with hook and line in tact, before you attempt to reel the fish in. If it wants to run again let it, don't tighten the drag or 'ping' your line snaps.

No spurs the last few days, they seem to have moved further north for a time and are not on our normal tope / spur fishing grounds. Decisions, decisions - go north for frantic spur action or stick around for the tope!! We stayed for tope and were reward with some really good fishing. check out some of the photos on Gallery 10.

.
26th July 2005 After the last set of neap tides the fishing started to get a little harder and less predictable. Confronted with some poor weather and big 33' spring tides the fishing had been on the slow side. Dogs and huss have been as usual aplenty and mixed in with these have been the usual suspects - whiting, odd codling, coalie pollack etc.

On the reefs though the wrasse fishing has been excellent, ballans have been varying between 1lb and 4lb, with the odd cuckoo at 1lb.

Mackerel have once again been hit and miss. One day we can clean up and have plenty of fish for bait, the frying pan and also the freezer - the next nothing, then the next their back!! Oh well that's fishing I suppose.

18th July 2005 With the weather warming up of late and more settled spells helping out, the fishing has been quite prolific and definitely enjoyable. The past few days has seen us venture off a few miles to Holyhead Deep in search of some tope and spurdog. In this area you have some very large tidal flows, coupled with deep water, we can only fish a max 1˝hrs either side of slack. Despite this though the fishing has been very good.

And yes we found them both! Tope catches have been sporadic and not really consistent; with numbers ranging between a handful to around 15, and sizes from 6lb to the biggest so far of 40lb.

Spurdogs though have been plentiful, ranging from a few lb to the biggest around 14lb. Such are the numbers and ferocity of the feeding, whilst going for the spurs we have had to reduce to single hooks. Can you imagine 8 anglers x 3 hooks = 24 possible double figure spurs thrashing about the decks.

Whilst de-hooking one I got spiked in the wrist - boy did that hurt.

Meltham & District SAC had one of their competition days out with us last Saturday and landed just short of 50 spurs in a couple hrs, half a dozen tope including a 31lb and 40lb (both caught by Alan Boyes), and a few huss during their couple hrs in the deeps.

Drifting a small reef a few miles off SW of Penrhyn Mawr on Sunday we hooked into quite a few nice pollack. Sizes varied from 1lb to the biggest at 8lb for Davey.

Plenty of them and some great sport, this made for a nice short stop on our way to the  spurs and tope.

Hopefully not too long before the next report!!

20th June 2005 A good weekend was had by all, sadly though the mackerel have gone. Not for long I hope. It was noticeable that there was a fair bit of Algae on top of the water, maybe this had driven the mackerel out for a while.

The algae is however more or less gone - with the fishing picking up quite well. Then weekends haul included plenty of small pollack and coalies on the reefs, with some very good ballan wrasse thrown in. Outside saw just the one tope (I caught it - hehe) and spurdog with a handful of bull huss.

Inside the fishing was a lot better on anchor - plenty of dogs and whiting as usual, with hordes of good bull huss and also a couple strap eels.

One big fish was lost inside, not too sure if this was a tope or a big smoothie - would be nice to see the big smoothies return now the algae is off.

.
18th June 2005 Well, well, well!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rods, reels and tackle supplied free of charge - this does not mean help yourself and take one away. Sadly one reel has gone missing from the boat over the passed month. Where and when I do not know. Taken by mistake or deliberately, again I do not know. I only noticed when I went to set up all 8 rods for a party this Friday.

It is a very sorry state of affairs, I hope the person reading this has the decency to send it back - but there again I very much doubt it. Thanks buddy!

.
13th June 2005 Weather not been too kind to us the last few days. With force 3-4NW with occasional 5 blowing right in . Options for fishing grounds have been limited. We have been able to consolidate the offshore marks with some light inshore drifting - and what a few days it turned out to be.

Pollack, coalies, wrasse, codling and mackerel - all of which appeared to have near suicidal tendencies. Kicking off the drift for a few mackerel and possible coalie we hooked into numerous pollack and coalies between the 1lb and 2.5lb mark, mixed in with these some good mackerel.

Additionally the rods would bend over on occasions with better fish with the best pollack at 5lb and codling at 4lb. The ballans have been topping 3lb - brilliant sport on light gear.

12th June 2005 The Algae appears to have gone - yippeeeeeee!!

  Sausages !!!!!

06th June 2005 There has been a good influx of big smoothound on the north West Anglesey coast. Even managed a nice Starry of 13lb 8oz myself. Huss are ever there - tops so far in 2005 falling to Warrington Mariner Arthur Dainty, knocking the scales to a good 15lb.

Last week or so has seen the Algae Bloom really take grip, however cross fingers, last weekend being the worst I've seen it. hopefully it will be on the decrease now. The fishing has slowed down with the exception of the huss and dogs. Other fish are coming aboard but primarily both spotted dogfish in the great numbers.

Owie - please can I have a go now?
24th May 2005 Quick news - smoothies are in. Just caught last hour and a half of the tide today and landed 6 and lost a few others half way. Few big huss landed and lost as well.

Paul Thelwell from Wrexham came up trumps recently with his first smoothound capture - a nice starry of 10lb 5oz - the last cast of the day.

WFSA International Arthur Beechy had a good day afloat recently when he managed to pluck a few 3 -4lb pollack from a very close in wreck. Not to be outdone fellow ABC SAC club member Owie also got in on the act with some plump inshore pollack. The wreck is only 500 yards off the breakwater, and offers some good fishing when the weather blows a strong 6.

Richard Brewin fell asleep during one change of marks, fair play he did drive for   3.5 hrs before setting sail.  Couldn't resist the squid on the head photo though.

16th May 2005 What a day? A fair number of forecasts were showing light westerly winds all day long, however the Met Office were giving the 24hour forecast as  3-4 North west veering north and then going 5-6 North East . What do you do when you're looking at a trip north on the wrecks?

Not go. Easy as that - you need to rely on the forecast. That was the decision so we decided to bottom fish and taking the small tides and the slack water  coming up into account, headed south to some deep water to look for some huss and spurs. Fishing was slow to start - but as the tide dropped a little for us we started to get through the dogs and locate a few huss - best one we hooked into was 11lb 1 oz. A few spurs were also landed to just short of 10lb. I even managed to land a small tope - first of the season.

Well 7 hrs into the 24hr forecast the wind picked up a little, then a little more. soon we had the 5-6 expected a bit later, upon us. Unfortunately the wind forgot to change to the north East that would've given us some shelter and a less lumpy ride, the north west it stayed -  was a little rough out there. Albeit safe - but still a  rather uncomfortable ride home to safety.

Where's he going with this I can hear you asking? Well,  I was fortunate today in that I had a very good crew aboard with me, who appreciated the forecast given. Sometimes you can call off a trip, or not venture to where you wanted to go and the winds don't appear. Damned if you do and damned if you don't! Safety though will always come first

Weather forecasting is not an art, and if truth be known I think it's becoming a very hard science to predict. So here's hoping that someone, somewhere is listening to my plea's for light winds and calm seas.

Set sail recently with a great crew from Clarksfield & District SAC from Manchester way. Small tides but still a steady flow of fish came over the gunwales.  In all a fairly mixed back - dogs and huss and a few other bits 'n' bobs at anchor with small pollack and some nice ballan wrasse on the drift. Tried for a few smoothound but nothing. On of the small boats out at the weekend reported catching a smoothie - so at least we know that they are moving in now.

01st May 2005

I don't think the Bob Marley look turned out quite as Darren wanted it to!!

26th April 2005 A nice settled spell of light winds, albeit with mainly an easterly edge to them, has seen My Way set sail lately looking for some well deserved angling sport. It's a funny old time of year for us here, winter is all but gone, species are moving and the  spring/summer fish are slowly dribbling through.

As for big fish - huss become the mainstay on the inshore grounds for a while now. On the neap tides we are able to hook into the bigger rays (blondes and thornbacks) , as we move into May the smoothound should start to appear.

Close in under the rocks the fishing can be terrific for the sporting angler. Reef pollack, coalfish and ballan wrasse, all up to 4 lb have been showing slowly. Light rods such as sensor tips and coarse feeder rods have given a number of anglers some really exciting sport recently.

St Georges day 2005, had a crew from Nottingham fishing with us, and despite the rather stiff force 4 NE, we managed to hook into a fair number of fish - dogs, whiting, huss and pouting monopolizing the catch. Phil Garner coming up trumps with his first fish of the day and first ever huss weighing in at  8lb 7oz.

In all despite the easterlies a fair few fish have been showing including the following :- dogs, huss, pollack, wrasse, whiting, codling, coalfish, pouting, strap eel. Here's looking forward to some more settled weather.

04th April 2005 My Way came out of the water on 21st March for some long overdue TLC. the boat has recently had a nice new coat of paint both inside and out. Various electronics have also been upgraded - brand new Icom DSC VHF and also a LOWRANCE 5000c Colour Chartplotter. Additionally we have also added a new radio - as many of you know the old one crackled more than it played any music. Therefore we now have a Digital radio with CD and MP3 player should you want a bit of music to relax with whilst fishing.

Best bit of news - the 'Porta Potty' has gone and the electric flush loo has finally been installed - all that I ask is that you lay off the curries the night before Yorky!!

Back in the water on 6th April and raring to go another season.

18th March 2005 Recently the high winds that have pounded the country have dropped off, thus allowing us to fish some specific marks. On Saturday 19th March I was joined aboard My Way by a group of cracking lads from Nottingham, Forest supporters - brilliant!! Oh and a Derby fan, shame forget his name - oh yes it was Huey, or was it Ralph!?

Anyway to the fishing, steady stream of fish came aboard - dogs, whiting, small codling, small huss, a dab - nothing spectacular, well not until John Hallam hooked into a good fish. After a twenty minute huff & puff an 18lb 14oz blonde ray glided into the net aboard My Way. First large ray of the season and first of many hopefully.
