Yet
another good sized eel has been landed. Danny Mason was fishing aboard My
Way with a group of friends from Wrexham when he hooked into, and after a
25 minute fight landed a good specimen eel weighing 39lb.
A further 3 eels where landed on the trip - 9lb, 12lb and 13lb - with another lost on the surface and a few more lost to the wreck. how long before My Way gets its first 40'er !! |

Well
I've been saying for a while now that our near by wrecks hold some decent
conger. Local rod Terry John proved me right - by hooking into and landing
a magnificent 37lb specimen.
Commiserations have to go to Keith Dunbarr who twice hooked into a big conger only for it to snag him on the wreck - never mind next time Keith, oh and Keith - your meant to cook the prawns before eating them!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Hot
off the press - TOPE !! Since My Way arrived into action late
May this year - we have not targeted tope. Being an extremely keen tope
angler I had resigned myself to a tope less year. however this was not to
be as Andy Loble from Shropshire managed a 28lb male tope on the evening
of 8th November.
Late tope action is something Anglesey and especially Holyhead is famed for, however with the continual winds we have had recently, our fishing has been restricted with only the odd day out. Leaving the possibility of targeting tope only that - a possibility. OK stop laughing it's just the one - but never the less still a tope. The whole day was action packed for Andy and his colleague Adam. Plenty of dogfish, mixed with the odd whiting & dab to begin with and then a couple huss - touching the 8lb mark. Moving close in under the cover of darkness we fished one of our close by wrecks (20 mins for the marina - ideal for the 4 - 6 hr evening trips). Here the tope came aboard followed by a few small, 8 - 9lb, conger. Sadly we didn't manage any bigger conger as the slop on the sea soon became to big for safety let alone comfort. Maybe next time. |

Have
managed a few trips over the recent weeks and am pleased to report that
the inshore congering has started to pick up. All 3 trips where conger
have been tried for have resulted in fish landed (oh and lost - need
bigger hooks!).
After a few hours bashing dogs and whiting yesterday our thoughts turned to the conger. As darkness fell, we anchored up over a wreck that lies no more than 20 minutes from our marina berth and hooked into fish immediately. In total 8 double figure fish where landed and a few lost. The largest was a 15lb'er. None of the crew had caught conger before so it was nice to see the fish playing ball. What's nice on these wrecks close in is that the huss stick around during daylight, so as we're preparing for the conger we can play around with huss. A fair few came over the gunnels yesterday with the largest topping the scales at 15lb 8oz for Deano Spivey. As the weather turns a little colder the bigger fish should be venturing out more and give some terrific sport for the anglers. Please check the availability page and get your trip booked in ASAP. |

| 06th October 2004 | Wow - where the hell have all these winds come from? September has seen the My Way kept in on a number of trips. Sadly with the forecasted winds averaging force 6 and 7 we have only ventured out on a few occasions. | |||

Fishing has been steady through out the days afloat, with the good old huss giving us the best fishing. Midlands angler Andy Lempicki hooked into the largest at 12lb 14oz, giving him a nice specimen for the NFSA Midlands division to go with his 2lb 8oz specimen ballan wrasse, caught earlier during the trip. Some nice codling to 3lb have been showing for a while now - hope this indicates quite a tidy bit of winter fishing is on the cards. The odd ray has been about but nothing bigger than 4lb. Tope are starting the odd run now as the large females move back in for a few weeks. None landed as yet - need this weather to abate a little so we can get stuck into them?! Short but sweet - hopefully a better, more action packed report for you next time.

With me
being away in Milford Haven with the WFSA
boat team for two weeks, and the weather playing foul on a few days, July
has been rather a quiet month, with only a handful of fishing trips.
We did manage a few sneaky trips out to the huss grounds, with most trips producing fish to an average of 9lb, with many breaking the double figure mark. Drifting close in the rocks has resulted in some excellent sport on the ballan wrasse. Fish approaching 3lb have given some excellent sport on light tackle - there are not many fish around that will beat the fight off a plump ballan wrasse. On a few of our poor weather days, the crews opting to fish close inshore instead of canceling have been rewarded with a mixed bag of fishing. Derek Culshaw and co from Cheshire had a mixed day on the last weekend in July. With SW winds topping 30mph we opted to anchor on the dogs and bits then drift a few close in wrecks. This produced a fair few fish including, dogs, gurnards, codling, whiting, dabs, pollack, pouting and poor cod, plenty of fish to keep the rods bending over. Mind you I bet there were a few who wished they had opted for the cancel. Green faces and name changes to huey and ralph are the memories I also have along with the fish. I'm sure it was the weather though and not the bacon sarnies!! |

What a
day!! Forecast was not very nice with southwesterly winds pushing between
a force 5 and 6. This restricted the fishing to within the shelter of
Holyhead bay. Never the less the rough ground and close by wrecks produced
fish all day for Chorley & District SAC. The fish caught
included:-
dogfish, whiting, red gurnard, pouting, huss, poor cod, ling, mackerel
and pollack. |

Not
been out over the past few days. Went to Weymouth for the weekend to
compete in the first 2 legs of the WFSA
boat team trials. Had a respectable result but not brilliant - hehe ....
must try harder. Weather was great but the fishing slow - did manage
my first bream of the year -first of many I hope.
Took the My Way for a run and am pleased to report that the algae bloom has all but gone. Now bring on the fish! |
|||
| 9th June 2004 | Tried a few inshore wrecks today - fishing slow. Possibly due to the increased algae bloom over the last few days. Should start dropping off now and we'll see the fishing pick up. Then the force 4-5 southwesterley forecasted came in 3hrs early at 5-6 not my day. Never mind ended with a plenty of mackerel, dogs, dabs, small pollack etc | |||
| . | ||||
| 4th June 2004 | Mackerel have arrived in numbers - at last - was starting to worry a little about where the little blighters were hiding. Some really nice specimen wrasse about - both ballons and the beautifully marked cuckoo's. | |||
| . | ||||
| 31st May 2004 | Excellent day afloat today. Started on the dogs and huss with the top huss touching 11lb 10oz but only 1 small smoothie. Moved off to a wreck 5 mile out and had fish every drift for a couple hours. Best pollack was 12lb 3oz with the many other fish coming in at 8lb. Check the photos out here | |||
| . | ||||
| 28th May 2004 | Noticeable increase in the May Algae Bloom today, however cross fingers not appearing to be effecting the fishing too much with plenty of dogs, huss, smooths, codling and pollack to be had. | |||
| . | ||||
| 27th May 2004 | Excellent fishing being had at the moment with both bull huss and smoothound topping the scales at just over 12lb. Huss are averaging 8lb and smoothies 5lb. Still no Mackerel to mention though - the odd one but not enough for a good days fishing with fresh bait. | |||
