May is an exciting time in Holyhead as
the fishing continues to improve.
General inshore trips are filled with an array of different species with
pollack, wrasse and coalies on the drift. Anchoring up and we'll have
continuous sport with dogs, whiting, dabs, blonde rays, thornback
rays, codling, gurnards & bull huss plus many more. With the largest
draw being our consistent return of big smoothhound.
Offshore we will still have plenty of double figure huss, spurdog &
conger along with some good tope fishing, with the tope increasing
further in size from the 30lb'ers caught in April.

| Hounds first move in during early May, and hang around until early
July. These fish go well into double figures and average around the
14lb mark, with many specimens taken just shy of 20lb. We have
also had a number of fish exceed the 20lb bracket in recent years.
the most notable of which bagged a new WFSA Record for Brian Taylor
From Wigan, who caught, weighed, photographed and released a starry
smoothhound of 25lb 6oz.
Off Holyhead in the past 2
years, we have also noted a return of the fish for a month from late
August into mid September, with these fish averaging around 8lb.
