The majority of the wrecks available to us date from the late 1800's/ early 1900's 

This is the time when slate production from the north Wales quarries was at it's peak and the best quality stone was still available. Allowing the splitting of roofing slates to surpass any available throughout the world.

Welsh slates are still produced today and still regarded as the World's best- 

However, large sizes are only available at great expense and also to special-order.
