.
For the first two weeks in October, My Way was tied up and given a rest, whilst I and 6 other anglers represented Wales at the 41st World Boat Angling Championships held in Weymouth England and hosted by the NFSA.

In total 19 nations were competing, including all 4 home nations, many from Europe and also an all ladies team from as far away as South Africa.

.
Accommodation for the event was to be the Little Sea Haven caravan park. Bait and tackle supplies if needed by the infamous Weymouth Angling Centre. Weymouth's vast and experienced charter fleet, being led by the event commodore Tiger Lilly skipper Chris Cairns had been booked - thus ensuring all nations would certainly be well looked after.
.
Having competed previously in the Home Internationals this was to be my 1st (hopefully not my last) World Champs. It turned out to be a very enjoyable experience. Fishing with other nationalities hints and tips were abound along with new found friendships with fellow anglers from around the globe.

Traveling down to Weymouth a week before the event, we had planned a series of 5 practise days to help familiarise ourselves with the waters further - including tides, grounds and fish etc.

The fishing was proving to be very hard. Unfortunately the fish were not available in any numbers meaning the championships was going to be a very hard match, with all anglers working hard to seek out the solitary fish swimming by.
During the practise days catches were predominantly bream, and dogs with the odd, gurnard, pollack, pouting,  huss and conger making up the remaining species. However both Rod and Robbie also managed to bag a Red Mullet! A first for both anglers.

How would the other countries fair? Well speaking to a few that were also out practicing they were up for the challenge, and looking forward to the event.

.
During a World Championships you have to move position on the boat a total of four times - this was a new one for me so an interesting format - especially if you don't like one peg - or one appears to fish worse than an other. Well how did it go?

.

Match day one - boat Atlanta, Dave Pitman - Managed to catch a fair few fish, mainly bream and dogs. Came in 2nd on my boat having lost  by 2 garfish to England's Bobby King.

Rod Adamson secured Wales first boat win this championship.

Wales lying 8th overall

Match day two - boat Flamer III, Colin Penny - started well - bream and the odd dog once again. However peg eight was beckoning - this appeared to be a barren peg for anglers there before me with the tide pushing awkwardly leaving you under the boat all the time. After a couple slow minutes, being on the rocks, a couple shy bites got me thinking 'Conger'. Changing gear over I concentrated on conger for the next hour, and managed to land 3 - all over the 20lb plus mark. These eels also managed to secure the boat win from me from Sebastian Cox, a very good French angler who had won his boat the previous day.

Rod once again won his boat day two.

Wales lying 6th overall

Final match day - boat Atlanta, - Dave Pitman - Bobby King on my boat again - this time it would be sweet revenge - or so I had hoped. Unfortunately this wasn't to be and again I came 2nd to Bobby, this time by a measly 1 point. In fairness to Bobby though he fished extremely well to win the boat. After cracking off twice and losing a stonker of a ray earlier in the morning he fought back and took the win away from me- well done. On the flipside I fished like a donkey for the last hour - dropping 6 fish all together. Just ask the skipper - he took great pleasure in telling my team manager - oh well!!

John Traynor brought Wales another boat win today.

Nervous anticipation was abound - how did we finish? Can Wales achieve it's best result yet?
